About Anne
Playwright · Director · Professor · Storyteller of the Silenced
Anne Marilyn Lucas is an award-winning playwright, director, and former professor whose bold, emotionally resonant storytelling has brought over 30 original works to the stage—from 10-minute dramas to full-length plays and musicals. Her work has been performed in New York City, across New England, and internationally, tackling themes of intergenerational trauma, addiction, justice, and resilience.
Her latest play, The Art of Leaving (formerly Party?), is scheduled for an Off-Broadway debut at The Pershing Square Signature Center on 42nd Street in October 2025, following acclaimed productions at Marblehead Little Theatre and in NYC.
Her deeply personal play Recovery—inspired by her daughter’s journey with addiction—garnered three Massachusetts Cultural Council grants, ran in both NYC and Boston, was submitted for the Pulitzer Prize, and was translated into Greek for a 2020 production at Theatro Non Verba.
Lucas’s Holocaust drama Say the Name was staged at Harvard Divinity School, and her multi-generational play From Silence—which explores inherited trauma and silence among Holocaust survivor families—has been performed at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (dir. Arin Arbus), Cottey College, Gloucester Stage, and is currently being translated for a European premiere in Greece.
Beyond dramatic work, Lucas has penned a series of biographical musical revues celebrating the legacies of Broadway legends like Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Rodgers & Hammerstein, and has produced historical dramas (e.g., inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne) as well as topical short satires.
A graduate of the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London (Diploma), she also holds a BFA from Lake Erie College, an MFA in Theatre Education/Directing from Boston University, and an MFA in Creative Writing for Stage & Screen from Lesley University.
She taught as a Professor of Drama at Salem State University for over a decade, mentoring young playwrights, directing student productions, and building bridges between education and the professional stage.

“I hope to educate, inspire, and uplift people’s hearts with my work.
My plays give voice to those who are the collateral damage of large issues—
families of Holocaust survivors, drug addicts, narcissists.
I write to hold space for pain, for healing, and for transformation.”
